We are aligning with the UN's Sustainability Goals to contribute to the planet.

15th Jun 2021

COVID-19 has raised the awareness that we must play a role to community well-being, protect the earth, and plan to contribute a sustainable economy. As a ship agency, there is existing minimal impact on the environment from the operational side of business.

As a subsidiary of Northern Marine Group – itself a wholly-owned subsidiary of shipping conglomerate, Stena, AB, Austen Maritime Services would like to announce that the company is now aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainability Development Goal 3 Good Health and Well-Being; 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth; as well as 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production.

The road maps laid out for the goals are as follows:

Goal 3 – Good Health and Well-Being

3.8 Achieve universal health coverage, including financial risk protection and access to quality essential health-care

Our measurable index will be reduced medical leave among employees, including regular company-sponsored wellness programmes, lunchtime fitness programmes (as soon as social gathering restrictions ease), and local#colleaguesunite fitness activity introduced by Northern Marine Group.

Goal 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth

8.3 Promote development-oriented policies that support productive activities, decent job creation, entrepreneurship, creativity and innovation, and encourage the formalization and growth of micro-, small- and medium-sized enterprises, including through access to financial services

Our measurable index will be increasing profits, to protect and generate job opportunities for the community.

8.6 By 2020, substantially reduce the proportion of youth not in employment, education, or training

Our measurable index will continue the existing initiatives to provide at least five internship opportunities per year.

Goal 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production

12.5 By 2030, substantially reduce waste generation through prevention, reduction, recycling and reuse

As a small team, we consciously start to go digital, reduce utilities’ consumption in the office, utilize technological equipment until end-of-life, partner environmental organizations to participate in annual beach cleanups, as well as select environmentally-friendly suppliers as in vendor selection criteria.
